Where are my roots of optimism? Winston Churchill once said, “A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” Roots of optimism can be many things like coaches, sports, family, etc. But for me, it is the history of my family optimism. Everyone in my family describes a different trait in optimism. My three favorite traits that members of my family show are Kindness, unselfish, and faith. What is kindness? Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. Some people can be mean, but others, like my grandma, are kind. My grandma grew up in a poor family. She was the youngest out of 4 kids. As she got older, she wasn’t greedy, she was kind. She went to a music school for college, that is where she met my grandpa and they got married. Then, my dad and my aunt were born. When my dad got married to my mom, they had me. When I got older, my grandma wanted to teach me how to play the piano. Even though I was always grumpy and screaming .she wouldn’t get mad. She was always calm. She would say, “Just get a drink and calm down, then we can start again”. She never gets mad or upset, even if my little sister has a fit, she won’t get mad. That is kindness. Then there is unselfish. According to the dictionary, unselfish is willing to put the needs or wishes of others before one’s own. That is my great-great grandpa. He was unselfish unlike some people with money. He used his money for the good not bad.  He built schools, playgrounds, and more for children. He didn’t have a mansion or anything like that. He wasn’t selfish with his money. He donated to charities and he did a lot more to help the poor. Lauryn Hill once said, ” Let me be patient, let me be kind, make me unselfish without being blind”.Finally, there is faith. According to the dictionary, faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. That is my parents. Whenever I try to learn something new, and I completely fail it, they always say it is ok and that I should keep trying. For example, when I tried to get a new skill in gymnastics and I would completely FAIL, they would always say that I am close, even when I’m not, and I should keep trying. Marthin Luther King Jr. said,” Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”.People have their roots of optimism in different things. For me, it is my family optimism
