The interact with each other and add context

Published by admin on

The evolution of the world wide web has surprised many, especially in recent times. Looking a further back, the transition from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 took the longest and Web 3.0 barely created a footprint and the end of Web 3.0 is already a topic of discussion. To get a basic idea, Web 1.0 was read-only where the user had a passive role when accessing the web. Web 2.0 changed the role of the user from passive to active in the form of social networking and blogs. This form of the Web 2.0 also gave it a name of read-write web. The rise of Facebook and Twitter during this time gave a clear indication of the presence of Web 2.0. The web evolved into Web 3.0 even quicker and around 2008, big companies such as Google, Best Buy, and even Facebook started making use of the Web 3.0, the semantic web. Where machines could interact with each other and add context to the web pages on their website. Facebook could link web pages to its feed directly and add them to a user’s feed depending on the context. The next step in the evolution of the web will be Web 4.0. I believe that web Web 4.0 will be about intelligent machines. Internet of things has rapidly taken over our world. Adding intelligence to it gives it a new dimension which is the driving force for Web 4.0. For example, the recently concluded CES 2018 showed glimpses of that intelligent future with AIs in TV and refrigerators as well. There is an interesting pattern that has developed with the evolution of Web 4.0. The communication in web 1.0 was from human to machine in the form of a search. The communication in web 2.0 was human to human in the form of blogs and social networks. The communication in web 3.0 is machine to machine where they are adding context to pages and giving better search results. The communication in web 4.0 will be machine to humans in the form of intelligent machines using information from the web interacting with humans. It has partly begun in the form of Google’s Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa. But right now, the information is read by the assistant from the web. Upon maturity, the information will be contextualized by the AI and fed to the users. The intelligent agents on the web in communication with the AI in devices will generate and resolve tasks even before prompted to do so.Web 4.0 will not only impact individual users, it will impact businesses in the form of unfamiliar collaborations of companies to succeed together, or stores and hotels with no representatives or personnel.
