It seems fitting to speak about the Women of the Bible since
yesterday was women’s day. Gabriella actually asked me why do we only celebrate
women and not men, weren’t they all made by God.
So when I started researching this topic I came across so
many valuable lessons we can learn from such a big variety of women in the
Bible and I feel today that I will only be touching the tip of the ice berg in
the lessons we can learn and I can only discuss a few.
The best place to begin is at the beginning so I thought we
might start with Eve.
So to put some context to eve and who she is:
She was the first women created to be a help mate to Adam
and she was created in the image of God.
She made some terrible mistakes in her life which lead the
world into terrible turmoil but we can definitely learn from her mistakes:
She did not trust God’s word and for that very
reason she was vulnerable and she decided to enter into conversation with the
serpent were as what she should have done at that very moment is rebuke Him in
God’s name. So often we are found in this vulnerable place and we must be
She tried to manipulate what God had said to
make him look like he was strict and horrible. God had said do not eat and she
added he said do not eat or touch which opened the door even wider for the
serpent to prove his point
She considered the offer – because she
considered his offer she makes him even bolder and he says to her God is a liar
– you won’t’ die and then he also calls God Jealous as he does not want her to
be like him and the serpent appealed to three areas of temptation – her
physical good food and emotional she desired what she saw and her spiritual –
she would become wise – Jesus dealt with all three when he was tempted too – we
need to be careful and put the full armour of God on here and we need to run.
Take a moment to consider if you have even been tempted and considered the
offer and how it appealed to these three areas and if you eventually did run or
She disobeyed – She did what she should not do
and she was not in a fallen world yet – she chose to disobey. We need to choose
to TRUST GOD and obey GOD
She took Adam down with her – so she went from
being Gods defender to Satan’s helper. How many times in our life when we have
disobeyed have we taken others down with us.
(Des moving example)
We can learn to run and Trust and obey and
be content with what we have.
Now, let me give you a quick synopsis of the Book of Ruth. To
start out, a woman by the name of Naomi packed up and moved from Judah to Moab
due to a terrible famine that was affecting her family. She and her husband
moved there with their two sons, who eventually took wives while living in
Naomi lost her husband and two sons. Broken and empty, Naomi decided to move
back to Bethlehem in Judah. Her daughter-in-law Ruth came with her, since she
had also lost her husband. Keep in mind
