In our arms farther…. And one fine morning—

In the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald the american dream was represented multiple times in the book. The american dream in great gatsby represents a life that everyone wants to live. The land of the better and the richer. It is the life of only the rich of the rich. A good example example is gatsby’s life. Gatsby lives the life every man dreams of. This book shows how you must work to become one of the riches just like Gatsby. In chapter 5 Daisy is overwhelmed by what Gatsby owns. She is wealthy in her own ways but Gatsby is over the top of everyone.  “They’re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed, her muffled in the folds. It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such beautiful shirts.” (Fitzgerald 58). She shows how she cried over the clothing because she couldn’t afford it. A part of the american dream in this book is being able to afford anything just like Gatsby. Daisy also shows her emotion because she does not work for any of her money and the man shes will buys her most of the things she wants. Another example that includes daisy is that she only cares about money. The american dream is not always about money.  Gatsby is trying to say how Daisy belongs in east egg because thats all  they care about. “Her voice is full of money,” he said suddenly. That was it. I’d never understood before. It was full of money—that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbals’ song of it. (Fitzgerald 120). Gatsby seems disappointed in her because all the money she gets without working for it, and she still is amazed by everything Gatsby owns.Last example shows how Gatsby was before he is what he is now. His quote shows how he did not give up on his dreams and kept going. Gatsby states that every day we will stretch and fun faster. This means we will get better everyday to get closer to the american dream. “Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…. And one fine morning— So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”(Fitzgerald 152-153).In this novel the american dreams means alot to everyone. As you can see Gatsby lives in the american dream, and other people such as Daisy want to live that dream. Gatsby shows how you must work for it and nothing comes easy in life. In different ways Gatsby shows his wealth and other people get jealous from him but to live the american dream you must work for it.Work citedFitzgeraldf.scott The Great Gatsby, scribner, 2004.
