Disease number two, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD). MCTD is a condition that has features of systemic lupus, erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, and polymyositis. Basically, it’s a bunch of diseases wrapped into one and you have symptoms from each disease. The symptoms of each disease don’t all occur at once. MCTD is also classified as an overlapping disease. There is no cure for this, only medication to help with the symptoms. You’ll feel unwell, have cold and numb fingers or toes, swollen fingers and hands, muscle and joint pain. Doctors don’t know the cause of this disease yet. In MCTD the immune system attacks the fibers that provide the framework and support for your body. This disease can also be genetic. There are many complications that come with this disease like high blood pressure in your lungs, lung disease, kidney damage and digestive tract damage. About 75% of people with MCTD have Anemia.Raynauds is my third and final disease. It is a rare disorder of your blood vessels, it’s mostly in your fingers and toes. Your blood vessels will narrow when they are cold or when you’re stressed. When this happens in the fingers or toes, your blood can’t make it to the surface of your skin, your fingers and toes will turn white or blue. They’ll feel numb or cold until the circulation improves. Fingers and toes are most affected but other areas like your nose, lips, and ears can be affected also. It can take up to 15 minutes for blood flow to go back to normal. Cold temperatures are the most common way for an attack to happen. Your lifestyle will change; you’ll have to constantly think, will I be warm? Is it too cold for me? Wearing multiple layers of clothes, having gloves, hats, and warming up your car before you drive in cold weather are all a must. Smoking or being around cigarette smoke can flare up your symptoms and make everything worse.
