Definition of workforce diversity
Similarities and differences among employees in terms of age, cultural background, physical
abilities and disabilities, race, religion, sex, and sexual orientation.
For example:- Last year in month of july i start working at restaurant as a chef. For first two
weeks everything was going well. And on third week the restaurant manager hired one more guy
as a kitchen helper. And that guy was quite older than me, and he belongs from Pakistan. So, as a
kitchen helper his job duties was to wash the dishes, cut the vegetables and help me preparing
meal, when the restaurant get busy. But, due to some reason that guy do not like to do the work
that i asked him to do or don’t like to help me. And one day he start shouting on me, and said
you cannot give me the order to do something just because i am new to this restaurant. And ask
me to look at the age difference that we have.
So, i think that this kind of diversity among employees can decrease the efficiency level of
employees, as in my case that older would not feel comfortable while working with the young
Definition of values
Values are beliefs or ideals shared by the members of culture about what is good or bad and
desirable or undesirable.
For example :- In our society there are some groups of people who don’t like to use animals as
their food or they don’t like to kill them. The one of the reason that one of my vegetarian friend
told me about that when we take the meat into your body, that meat is infused with the emotions
of the animals and that you are also taking in the pain and fear connected with how that animal
died. Where as on the side for some people it’s an regular part of their dinner.
Definition of perception
It is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses.
Examples:- As in the last year i start working at gas station. I usually work during the night shifts
their. And one day what i found that the guy who works during the day time didn’t completes his
work task. And this same thing will happen again after time. And when i asked him the reason
for not completing the job properly, he explained that he is behind on his mortgage and his wife
is also pregnant, and that’s why he would not be able to focus on his work. Until that day i was
perceiving that he was lazy. Because i don’t know his problems.
Definition of attitudes
It’s tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain idea, object, person, or
If i have positive attitude then i would like to pay attention to the good, rather than bad in people,
situation or in certain events. A simple example is when i am having a very bad run of luck but
still i say “good morning” rather than “what’s so good about this morning”. And on the other
side if i have a negative attitude, then no matter that how much power or wealth i have, i am still
going to complains about everything.
Definition of motivation
Internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually
interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal.
At my current job, if want to learn more about the customer interaction then i would prefer day
shift’s. And the company would set my schedule accordingly. This is called an intrinsic
motivation. Because no any external factor force or motivate me to learn more about the
customer interaction, as it’s my personal decision.
On the other side, if i want to get paid more than i would prefer night shift. And this would be an
extrinsic motivation. Because in this case money is considered to be external factor, that
motivates me to work during night’s.
