Can Biotechnology cure diseases that were once considered as incurable? Biotechnology is technology based on living things. It is used for many different things such as agriculture, medicine, business and the environment. There are many types of biotechnology. One of the newest is based on changing genes. Genes are in the cells of every living being. They pass on traits from parent to child. Changing the genes of a plant or animal is called genetic engineering. Stem cells and cloning are types of genetic engineering. Stem cells are used to cure diseases. They can also heal parts of the body that have been hurt. But is biotechnology worth the risk?               One reason why biotechnology is worth the risk is mentioned in a website known as in an article known as 5 pros and cons of biotechnology. The article says  “Infections diseases can be a very scary thing and they are not prevented and reduced but,  biotechnology has the ability to offer product and treatments that can actually help to reduce infectious disease rates and keep the spreading of these diseases to minimum. This can reduce the rates panic and promote health in a unique way. Without biotechnology being used on humans to reduce rates of infectious disease, there could be higher rates that create epidemics and pandemonium. Biotechnology is so powerful that this type of innovation is leading to the change of odds for many diseases. This means that diseases that were once viewed as terminal or untreatable are now being seen as curable. The odds of many serious diseases are being changed for the better due to biotechnology in humans”                 Another reason is  that biotechnology has the ability to save countless lives that is mentioned in a website known as in an article known as  “5 pros and cons of biotechnology”. The article says “Even though some view using genetic makeup to cure diseases and improve health as controversial, it has a positive impact on the world of healthcare as a whole. It changes how spread, how they are treated and the odds that people have or being cured. Right now more than 250 healthcare-related products that have been developed as a result of biotechnology. These health products are designed to treat diseases and illnesses that were once viewed as incurable.” which basically means that diseases that were once incurable including various cancers, heart disease, diabetes and Aids are now curable. And considering that 8.2 million people have died according to then thats a huge advantage.                 Lastly there is a major downfall. According to in an article known as pros and cons of biotechnology. It says “A major downfall of biotechnology is that is creates planets that tap into more of the soil resources and drains its ability to continue growing crops in the future. Even why crop rotations are used, it can take several years to several decades for crop lands to recover from just 2-3 years of biotechnology. The main downfall to biotechnology is both cost and lack of resources. This type of technology is very expensive to research and produce. This is the major drawback and could be the biggest reason why biotechnology research is not taken seriously and expanded further.” which basically means that soil can be damaged by biotechnology. Which I think is bad considering that farmers have to grow crops on it.                Biotechnology is worth the risk.  Biotechnology has many advantages such as curing aids, curing cancer, curing diabetes, curing infections, etc. About 8.2 million people have died from cancer so there can be more cancer survivors because of biotechnology. There have been more than 250 health care products thanks to biotechnology. There are now medicines for diseases that were once considered as incurable. Even though biotechnology is hard on soil it’s definitely worth the risk.
