Biotechnology for uncontrolled cancer growth by using siRNA.

Published by admin on

Biotechnology is the field of future that is beneficial to
the individual as well as the society. I want to be an element of innovation in
this field, which is creating a better tomorrow for everyone. To do this, I
need to arm myself with requisite knowledge which a graduate program can
furnish. I envision from this internship as the right stepping stone to pursue
my dreams and achieve my career goals.

During my undergraduate studies, ‘Molecular Biology’ and
‘Genetics’ evoked my keen research interest. I found the techniques involved in
Molecular Biology including Recombinant Technology fascinating. My aptitude for
Mathematics and Physics has made me an ardent learner of Biophysics, Modelling,
Simulation and Bioprocess Engineering that develop interest to make a system
for gene delivery which help to cure from cancer disease. That I am a topper
till now in most of the subjects including Molecular Biology, Molecular
Immunology, Bio-Statistics and Biotechnology Methods which is an indication of
my enthusiasm and ardour for these subjects.

The brief description of my topic of interest i.e. Breast
cancer is the leading cause of death and harmful effect among cancer patients.
Great strides have been made in understanding the factors causing breast cancer
and numerous new types of drugs are being continuously explored for therapy. In
most of the cases, chemotherapy medicines are used in combination (chemotherapy
regimens) because two or three different medicines at the same time, lower the
risk of the cancer coming back and also make the cancer shrink or disappear.
However, the traditional chemotherapy is still the treatment of choice for
breast cancers, but it is rarely curative and it loses its effectiveness on the
long-term therapy. The main reason for this is that the cancer cells adopt and
become resistant to chemotherapy. I want to work to develop a new approach for
therapy of cancers by developing a new type of drug for therapy, namely short
interfering RNA (siRNA). If we develop a plan to achieve this by silencing (or
eradicating) the molecules responsible for uncontrolled cancer growth by using
siRNA. So, our aim to make effective delivery systems i.e. the paramount to
accomplish the desired silencing. The delivery systems are intended to deliver
the siRNA into cancer cells without harming the healthy cells. In vitro models
will be used to determine the efficiency of delivery systems to deliver siRNA
into breast cancer cells and also design the effective siRNA to cure cancerous
