Abortionhas, in my opinion, been one of the largest debatable issues in AmericanSociety. There are so many aspects andviews to examine before one can even begin to form their own opinion. Politicians views are quite different thanthe views of a religious person. Ibelieve the most important aspect to consider is the medical side of abortion. There are so many medical facts that makeabortion very dangerous. Personally, Iam pro-life. I do not think there isany reason for an abortion because there are so many other alternatives. After researching the facts, and seeing themedical, political and religious views, I believe most of our society wouldagree with me in saying abortion should not be an option.

Clinicalresearch provides a growing body of scientific evidence that having an abortioncan cause psychological as well as physical harm to women. Many times, after anabortion, women feel worthless and victimized because they failed at the mostnatural of human activities- the role of being a mother. Many women who have had an abortion alsosuffer from PAS ( post-abortion syndrome).Women suffering from PAS may experience drug and alcohol abuse, personalrelationship disorders, sexual dysfunction, repeated abortions, communicationdifficulties, damaged self-esteem and even attempt suicide. Even using anesthesia, 97% of womenexperience pain during an abortion. They may experience complications such as bleeding, hemorrhage, laceration of the cervix, menstrual disturbance, inflammation of thereproductive organs, and serious infection.Death of the mother is the most serious danger of abortions, but hasbeen very rare. Some evidence has beenshown that abortion can increase the risks of breast cancer.
Ibelieve it is hard to understand the political views of abortion. In my opinon, politicians will often saywhat they think the public wants to hear, and not what they truly believe. There have been many lawsuits about abortion, but the most important was the Roe vs. Wade case in 1973. The ruling stated that a woman and herdoctor may freely decide to terminate a pregnancy during the first trimester, however, state governments can restrict abortion access after the firsttrimester with laws intended to protect the woman’s health. Abortions after fetal viability must beavailable if the woman’s health or life are at risk, and state governments canprohibit other abortions. To the bestof my knowledge, those laws are still enforced today, though there areconsistent efforts to outlaw abortion permanently.
Religiousviews of abortion vary, but overall, most churches are highly against abortion. The Roman Catholic Church believes that all abortions are a form of murder. However, a number of liberal and mainlineChristian churches and religious organizations have publicly stated thatabortions are sometimes an acceptable option, and should continue to be legal. I am not a very religious person, so I amnot one to say whether and abortion is right or wrong in the religiousaspect.
Thepublic opinion of abortion is very hard to determine, and probably changesdaily. I believe everyone has his orher own opinion, and reason to support it.There are so many other alternatives to abortion. So many couples want a baby and cannotconceive one. If a woman is responsible enough to have sex, then she should beresponsible enough to think of the consequences and do the right thing. I think what we, as a country, need to dois educate about pregnancy and protection, rather than discuss abortion. If prevention were as large a topic ofdiscussion as abortion is, then there would not be as many pregnant women withthe option of abortion, and a major decision to make.

I’m late for my period. I’ve never had sex willingly. Oh God I hope it wasn’t from that night. How can I live with myself or tell some one my secret. No one will believe me, it was my own boyfriend. It’s my fault anyway, I should’ve wanted to have sex, he told me we were going to get married. Where is he now? He said he’ll love me forever, I need him by my side. I think I’m going to take the test. I can’t be pregnant! How can I explain to the child that I don’t want it. I have major plans like college and meeting my Prince Charming. I don’t want to have a kid, especially since it’s face is going to remind me of the worst night of my life. I can’t be pregnant I’m only 18 years old. I have college to go to next year, I’m not even with Bill anymore.

“NO! STOP!!! PLEASE STOP!!!!” I cried as this “man” took me into his world, one in which I know I didn’t belong.

“ATLEAST PUT A CONDOM ON!! WHO ARE YOU? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME? PLEASE STOP!!!!” I kept crying and he was in such rage and had such determination that I would succomb to his ways and enjoy the most horrible experience of my life.

So, I’m going to take a pregnancy test. I pray I’m not pregnent. I can’t imagine telling anyone. They know I don’t believe in premarital sex. I still consider myself a virgin. I’ve never told anyone about that night, so if I just end up pregnant, who is going to believe me? I hope my mom stays by myside, I know she is going to be outraged. I hope Bill will put it his two cents in, should I even tell him? Abortions are legal in my state. It seems like a reasonable thing to do. I don’t want to kill my baby or throw him away in the dumpster. I would put it up for adoption, but every morning and night for the next nine months I am going to relive that horrible night. Roe v. Wade was based on this case. In 1973, The state of Texas had outlawed abortions. The Supreme Court declared the law unconstitutional, but refused to order an injuction againts the state. On January 22, 1973, The Supreme Court voted the right to privacy including abortions. In, 1976 Parenthood v. Danforth (Missouri) ruled that requiring consent by the husband and the consent from a parend if a person was under 18 was unconstitutional. This case supported a woman’s control over her own body and reproductive system. Justice William Brennan stated: “If the right to privacy means anything, it is the right of the individual, married or single, to be free from unwanted governmental intrusion into matters so fundamentally affecting a person as the decision to bear or beget a child.” Abortion is one of the most controversial issues in the world today. Everyone has their own individual opinion. I think I’m going to debate the situation. Although, I don’t want to be considered a whore or a murderer, I definately don’t want to be considered a mother to a fatherless child.

First before we get into the many sides of abortion we must first define abortion. Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mothers womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions by clinics set up especially for this purpose. There are two sides to this abortion topic the PRO-LIFE which is those who are against abortion altogether and the PRO- CHOICE or those who believe it is the womans right to choose if she wants to have an abortion. These two groups offer different solutions to problem. The pro-life solution is to have the child and basically live with it. They believe abortion is not an answer. The pro-choice solution is abortion because of reasons they feel are appropriate. Although abortion is morally and ethically wrong should it be legal for victims of rape or incest who have no other alternative?
