A think that if something bad happens on

Published by admin on

A superstition that I have always heard
throughout high-school is that Friday the Thirteenth is considered the
unluckiest day when it happens to come around. I as a matter of fact was born
on August 13th which lucky for me fell on a Friday. As I was growing
up I always heard my friends say that I was born on the unluckiest day of the
year, but I never truly  understood why
it was considered “unlucky.” When I turned eighteen I actually went with a
couple of my friends to a tattoo parlor in Richmond, Virginia because every
Friday the 13th they have certain tattoos for thirteen dollars.

According to Stuart Vyse, a professor of
psychology at Connecticut College in New London, fear that Friday the 13th
may be rooted in religious beliefs surrounding the 13th guest at the
Last Supper.  Judas was the apostle that
had betrayed Jesus and the crucifixion of Jesus was on a Friday, and that was
also known as hangman’s day (Handwerk, 2017). Some biblical scholars also
believe that Eve tempted Adam with the forbidden fruit on a Friday, and that
Abel was slain by his brother Cain on Friday the 13th (Handwerk,

This superstition is considered an
“unlucky day” so every time this day comes some people chose to not leave the
house, or even take extra precautions before leaving the house. These
precautions could include, making sure they have enough gas in their car, avoiding
black cats, taking precautions when around mirrors, etc. Some people tend to
think that if something bad happens on a Friday the thirteenth that it is
strictly because of that day. The number thirteen has been considered unlucky
for many years. In many Western countries tall buildings are missing the 13th
floor. Some houses often don’t have the number 13 along with hotels such as,
the Carlton in London (Molloy and Krol, 2017).  Many people have gotten in there head that
Friday the 13th is a day to try and avoid as much as possible. Some
people wont get married on a Friday the 13th, they won’t buy a home,
they won’t fly, etc.
